Police: Five to Fifteen People Killed in Texas Explosion


Police estimated that five to fifteen persons deceased after the explosion of a fertilizer plant in Texas. There are at least 160 injured and dozens of homes have been destroyed.

That police said Thursday during a press conference . The spokesman expects the number of deaths and injuries will still rise.


Three to five firefighters are missing. Some homes are still on fire, but rescue workers say that they have the fire under control in factory.

The devastating explosion in the American West instead began Wednesday night. Probably the factory exploded after it had broken out in the building fire.

Cause unknown

On a video of an eyewitness shows how meter high flames save from the factory and the factory then explodes.

How the fire started, is not yet clear. “There is no evidence of intent, I expect it is an accident,” explains the spokesman.

‘Nuclear bomb’

According to the U.S. Geological Survey had hit a magnitude of 2.1 on the Richter scale. This is similar to a light earthquake.

“It was like a nuclear bomb went off,” said Mayor Tommy Muska West.The Texan town has about 2,800 inhabitants and is surrounded by farms.
