Arnold Schwarzenegger has paid tribute to the bodybuilder and publisher Joe Weider, the “godfather of fitness” to whom he owes his career. Weider died yesterday age 93.
Joe Weider, who was born in Montreal in 1920, built an empire of millions of dollars on the issue of fitness and bodybuilding magazines. He discovered the Austrian bodybuilder Schwarzenegger in 1967, before which bodybuilding champion, Hollywood star and governor of California.
“Today I have a very good friend and mentor lost, and the world lost one of the most powerful advocates of a healthy lifestyle,” said Schwarzenegger.
